Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about YA FIT Pilates.

About Pilates

Pilates is a mind-body exercise method developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, who originally called it "Contrology." It focuses on controlled movement, breathwork, and core stabilization to improve strength, posture, flexibility, and overall movement health. Today it is practiced worldwide and is recognized as one of the most effective low-impact training methods available.

Consistent Pilates practice delivers a wide range of benefits including:

  • Improved core strength and stability
  • Better posture and spinal alignment
  • Increased flexibility and range of motion
  • Lean muscle tone without bulk
  • Reduced back pain and joint stress
  • Enhanced body awareness and coordination
  • Stress relief and improved mental focus
  • Faster recovery from injury

The results show up not just in class — but in how you stand, move, and carry yourself every day.

At YA FIT Pilates, we use the Reformer — the signature piece of Pilates equipment. The Reformer is a bed-like frame with a sliding carriage, springs, ropes, and pulleys that create resistance and support across a full range of movements. It is suitable for all fitness levels and can be adjusted to increase or decrease intensity. All equipment is provided — you only need to bring yourself.

For noticeable results, we recommend practicing at least 2 to 3 times per week. Consistency is everything — the more regularly you show up, the faster your body adapts and progresses. Even once a week is a meaningful start. Our Focus 8 membership (8 classes per month) is our most popular option for clients building a sustainable routine.

Your First Class

Yes. All YA FIT Core Pilates classes are designed for every level including complete beginners. Our instructors provide personal guidance throughout class and will make sure you feel confident on the Reformer from your very first session. We recommend starting with our New Member Intro — two classes designed specifically to get you oriented at your own pace.

Wear form-fitting athletic clothing that allows for a full range of movement — leggings, fitted shorts, and a fitted top work best. Loose or baggy clothing can get caught in the Reformer equipment. Grip socks are required for hygiene and safety on the Reformer.

Yes. Grip socks are available for purchase at the front desk at both studio locations. We recommend arriving a few minutes early if it is your first time so we can get you set up before class begins.

Bring a water bottle and your grip socks. We provide towels, mats, and all specialized Reformer equipment. You do not need to bring anything else. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early for your first class for a brief introduction, safety overview, and equipment walkthrough.

We ask that you arrive on time out of respect for your instructor and fellow clients. If you are more than 5 minutes late, you may not be admitted to class as the warm-up portion is essential for injury prevention. If you know you may be running late, please contact the studio in advance. Late arrivals may be marked as a no-show and the class may be deducted from your account.

Health & Special Conditions

Pilates can be a wonderful practice during pregnancy, but we strongly recommend consulting your healthcare provider before beginning or continuing any exercise program. Group Reformer classes at YA FIT are not specifically designed for prenatal clients. If you are pregnant, please speak with our team — we can discuss whether private sessions may be a better fit for your specific needs and stage of pregnancy.

Pilates is widely used for injury rehabilitation and prevention. However, the right approach depends on the nature and severity of your injury. Please inform your instructor before class so they can offer appropriate modifications. For significant injuries or post-surgical recovery, we recommend starting with private sessions where instruction can be fully personalized to your body and needs. Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program following an injury.

Each class has a maximum of 10 participants. Small class sizes are intentional — they allow our instructors to provide personal attention, correct form, and make sure every client is progressing safely and effectively.

You can book classes through our website or directly through the YA FIT Pilates app, available on iOS and Android. Once you have a membership or class pack, simply select your preferred class time and location and reserve your spot. We recommend booking in advance as classes fill up quickly.

We require a minimum of 12 hours notice to cancel a class reservation without penalty. Cancellations made within 12 hours of the class start time, or no-shows, will result in the class being deducted from your account. We appreciate your understanding — last-minute cancellations prevent other members from booking available spots.

Late cancellations (within 12 hours of class) and no-shows will result in the session being deducted from your class pack or membership. For unlimited membership holders, a late cancel or no-show fee may apply. This policy exists to ensure fairness for all members and to keep our small group classes available to everyone on the waitlist.
